Young Zhou Enlai was raised by his youngest widowed aunt Chen Shi. Chen was good at poetry and painting and
had certain cultural deposits. When Enlai was three or four years old, she began to teach him to learn Chinese
characters and practice calligraphy. At the age of 5, she taught him to recite ancient poems. Young Enlai was smart
and lively, with a remarkable memory. Zhou Enlai had been living with Chen since he was six months old. That lasted
till the death of Chen.
